Every fishermen who possesses a valid fishing license is also able to obtain a fishing license in Austria. Foreign guests do this by receiving a Fishing Guest Card. Fishing Guest Cards are valid for a maximum of four weeks from the date of issue. The guest cards cost between €5,– and €20,–. Sometimes a week card (in Carinthia), or a flat-rate card (in Upper Austria) are also required. The owner of a Fishing Guest Card must always also carry a government issued photo ID.
Along with the official guest card, a license for each fishing water is required. For these licenses there are day, week, month, and night fishing options.
Fishing guest cards and licences can be obtained from the member companies of ABENTEUER FISCHWASSER directly at the accommodation. Here staff
members will also be happy to inform you about the area, close seasons, dimensions, minimum age, guides, etc.
All of the nine Austrian federal states have their own laws within the national fishing laws. These laws have in some cases large differences in the requirements, seasons, and measurement requirements between the individual states. The minimum age in Salzburg and Upper Austria is 12. In Styria, Carinthia, Tyrol, Lower Austria, and Vienna it is 14 and in Burgenland 18.
In South Tyrol
Fishing vacation guests in South Tyrol need a license. These licenses can be purchased and have a validity of 10 years (minimum age: 8). Along with this license a Fishing waters-Day Card is also needed. The day passes, as well as any other information you may require, are available at the Adventure Fish Water accommodations.
