Brennsee – Fishing Information for Anglers

Clear, calm, and rich in fish: Lake Brennsee near Feld am See is a compact Alpine lake with short distances to spots and jetties. Thanks to a combo permit, you can also fish flexibly at Lake Afritz – ideal for whitefish enthusiasts, predatory fish hunters, and coarse anglers. Our tip for getting started: Use a boat, as free shore access is partly limited.

Water Profile

  • Location: Feld am See, Gegendtal / Nockberge, Altitude ~739 m.
  • Size & Depth: ~41 ha, Max. 26.3 m; Length ~1.3 km, Width up to 0.5 km.
  • Trophic status: currently oligotrophic (very nutrient-poor, clear conditions).
  • Name note: Officially referred to as Brennsee (historically “Feldsee”); local decision for uniform designation as Brennsee.

Fish Species

Whitefish, pike, zander, catfish, carp, tench, perch, bream, roach, rudd, lake trout, etc. – good whitefish and predatory fish opportunities, tench and coarse fish abundant.

Rules

  • 2 rods, boat fishing allowed; day permits generally valid for 24 hours (practical area info).
  • No trolling with electric or sailing boats, no traps/longlines, do not leave rods unattended while fishing.
  • Always check the current fishing regulations at the permit issuing office.

Note: Specific catch limits (e.g., daily number of predatory fish/whitefish) may vary depending on the season/regulations – the information provided by Kärnten Fisch on the issued permit or the local regulations is binding.

Access, Boats & Spots

  • Lake Brennsee is developed/private in many places – a boat offers clear advantages for changing structures and searching for whitefish.
  • Opportunities include at lidos/jetties and around the Feld am See Fish Farm; numerous businesses around the lake provide support with rowing boats/moorings.

Season & Methods

  • Spring/Autumn: Pike along edges, reed/weed belts; soft lures, jerkbaits/streamers.
  • Summer:Whitefish pelagic (Hegene/glass beads), sometimes deeper – note clear water; Tench/Carp along weed edges (feeder/method, corn/boilie).
(Adapt method tips to the respective regulations; note Hegene/number of hooks.)
